The Betty Gibson Memorial Lecture series was established in 2000 by Mack Gibson to honor his late wife, Betty. The purpose was to host, annually, a distinguished speaker who will address political, economic, cultural, or social developments of the South and Southern Appalachia and their relationship to our national history.

The Betty Gibson Memorial Lecture is normally held in conjunction with the FOA’s annual meeting that takes place in October. October is American Archives Month and Tennessee Archives Month.
